Tairua Community Unites to Introduce Local Kids to Lawn Bowls
Tairua Bowling Club is thrilled to announce a new initiative aimed at introducing the sport of lawn bowls to the youth of Tairua. In a collaborative effort with Tairua School, the bowling club is hosting a series of introductory sessions designed to teach kids the fundamentals of this exciting and strategic sport. This initiative was made possible thanks to the Trillian Trust who provided funding for 7 new sets of bowls.
Thanks to the generous support of the Tairua Friendship Club, the community van has been made available to transport students to and from the bowling club, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate.
“We are excited to open our doors to the children of Tairua,” said Brian Thompson, President of Tairua Bowling Club. “Lawn bowls is a sport that fosters not only physical skills but also teamwork, strategy, and social connections. We hope to inspire a new generation of bowlers and create lasting memories for our young athletes.”
The introductory sessions run over five weeks and include skill-building activities, friendly games, and coaching from experienced club members. The program aims to provide a fun and engaging environment where children can learn new skills, develop confidence, and make friends.
“We believe that introducing kids to lawn bowls will not only help them stay active but also instill values such as sportsmanship and community spirit,” said Juliet Small, Principal of Tairua School. “We are grateful to the Tairua Bowling Club for this wonderful opportunity and to the Friendship Club for their support in providing transportation.”
This summer, the Tairua Bowling Club will be hosting a number of social afternoons, inviting community members to come and experience the game. Additionally, the club will kick off its annual Twilight Business House Bowls in February.
